ND Industrial Commission Approves CO2 Storage

(Bismarck, ND) — The state’s industrial commission is clearing the way for carbon dioxide gas to be stored underground. The plan calls for Summit Carbon Solutions to build a pipeline that will collect emissions from nearly 60 ethanol plants in five states. The pipeline would end west of Bismarck and the CO2 would be pumped deep beneath private property into what’s called pore space. The commission, which includes outgoing Governor Doug Burgum, approved the plan Thursday. Summit says it will compensate landowners for the use of their pore space.
