(Sioux Falls, SD) — Catholics in South Dakota and around the world are celebrating a new Pope. Cardinal Roberto Francis Prevost [[ pre-vost ]] was selected by the papal conclave, and takes the name Pope Leo the 14th. The 69-year-old was born in Chicago and is the first-ever American Pope. In Sioux Falls, the Catholic Diocese expressed its excitement about the choice. The news was announced during Mass inside Saint Joseph’s Cathedral, leaving the crowd overjoyed. According to local Catholic leaders, there are more than 140-thousand Catholics across South Dakota.
