Rapid City Area Schools is moving forward with plans to modernize and expand its facilities.
At a public meeting held Thursday night at Central High School, Chief Finance and Operations Officer Coy Sasse and consultants from Co-Op Architecture unveiled a preview of the district’s new master plan.
The plan includes major upgrades, such as improved classroom technology, new security systems, and enhancements to HVAC and air quality infrastructure. One of the key goals is addressing overcrowding—especially in schools on the city’s east side.
Consultants say schools should ideally operate at no more than 90 percent of their maximum capacity to ensure functional learning environments.
A full version of the district’s master plan is expected to be posted online in the coming days.
