(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota inches closer to picking a site for a new state prison. The Project Prison Reset task force is narrowing its focus to 14 possible locations for new correctional facilities. The group meets for the final time tomorrow in Sioux Falls. Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen, who chairs the task force, says the options cover five main sites in eastern South Dakota, including land near Mitchell, Worthing, and several in Sioux Falls. The cheapest proposal comes in at over 622 million dollars, tied to property owned by Sweetman Partners in northeast Sioux Falls. Lawmakers will get their say later this year, but it’ll take a two-thirds vote in both chambers to move any plan forward.
