Minot City Council Approves License Plate Readers

(Minot, ND) — The Minot City Council is approving the use of license plate readers with restrictions. The council voted four-to-three in favor of turning on the AXON license reader devices after police are trained on how to use the technology. The devices take license plate numbers and compares them to a national database that stores plate numbers suspected in crimes and mischief. It’s been credited with helping catch criminals, Amber Alert victims, missing persons and stolen vehicles. Council members compromised on how long the system would store the license data and dropped the length from 30 days to ten.
