(Pierre, SD) — A bill to provide free lunches at schools in South Dakota is heading to the state Senate. The House passed the bill on a 46-to-20 vote on Tuesday. Some students would qualify for free lunches, while others would get reduced prices. Funds for the program would come out of the state’s general fund. The bill is sponsored by Democrat Sadyn Wittman who has introduced a similar bill in each of her four years as a legislator but this is the furthest her proposal has ever gotten.
