(Bismarck, ND) — Police throughout the state and the state Department of Transportation are warning about a new traffic violation scam. Several people report getting a text with an image that says “FINAL NOTICE – COURT ENFORCEMENT ACTION.” The text tells the victim they have failed to pay an outstanding traffic violation, and encourages them to scan a QR code in the bottom right corner to pay. Take a closer look, and you’ll see the red flags, including misspellings and references to a Minnehaha County and Judge Michael Rodriguez, neither of which exists in North Dakota. Police say they will never text you about an outstanding traffic warrant.
