Gov. Rhoden Provides Guidance On Implementing Officer Privacy Law

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden and Attorney General Marty Jackley are helping law enforcement protect officers’ privacy. The two leaders sent guidance to agencies on how to abide by House Bill 1084, which allows officers to opt out of sharing their personal information publicly. In the letter, the two say they’ve seen officers being targeted and threatened throughout the country. The new law goes into effect on July 1st, but agencies must opt in to the program by May 22nd. The protected information includes home addresses, phone numbers, and emails from the state voter registration list.
