Community Members Lockdown Drilling Equipment At Pe’ Sla

(Black Hills, SD) — Community members in the Black Hills are locking down drilling equipment at a sacred site. Indian Country Today News says that some Indigenous defenders have locked themselves to machinery to prevent crews from drilling. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the group was there attempting to stop drilling activity. NDN Collective says the project is taking place within a two-mile buffer zone of the Pe’ Sla site that was created by the U.S. Forest Service and tribes to protect tribal land. Despite an active lawsuit against the project, Pete Lien And Sons is moving forward with exploratory mineral extraction.
