Gov. Rhoden Says Rep. Johnson Knew About Super PAC Ads

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden says his opponent in the governor’s race tried to blackmail him. He claims Representative Dusty Johnson warned him through a mutual friend that if he didn’t drop out of the race, a super PAC was going to release ads against him, in favor of Johnson. Rhoden made the comments at a South Dakota NewsMedia Association conference in Deadwood. He didn’t name Johnson during his initial comment but later confirmed to Keloland that he was talking about Johnson. Johnson responded to the comments saying, “I did not approve the ad, but it’s clear this PAC supports me and opposes the Governor’s three sales tax increases.”
