(Minot, ND) — The court has ordered a former bus driver arrested for driving a school bus while intoxicated to serve three months in jail and go through alcohol abuse treatment. The sentencing comes after Tomas Podolski pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI while transporting students. Prosecutors said Podolski was transporting about 18 students from Minot Air Force Base to Minot North High School on August 20, but was stopped near the base after someone reported him driving erratically. Police say they found vodka in a water bottle on the bus, and Podolski later registered a 0.214 blood-alcohol level. No children were hurt, and Podolski was later fired from his job.
