Sen. Mike Rounds, Rep. Dusty Johnson Attend Sanford Underground Event

(Lead, SD) — Two of South Dakota’s three federal legislators are honoring a new research facility in Lead. Senator Mike Rounds and Representative Dusty Johnson were at a beam signing event at the Sanford Underground Research Facility as construction crews are starting to install steel beams to hold a cryostat tank for research on neutrinos. It’s part of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment at the facility, which was originally funded in 2004. There will be more than 13-hundred steel beams installed to hold the cryostat, which will be able to hold 17-thousand tons of liquid argon to detect neutrinos. The first neutrino beam is expected to be delivered in 2031.
