(Grand Forks, ND) — A star hockey prospect has committed to UND. Defenseman Carson Carel, a potential top-five pick in next month’s NHL Draft, signed a grant-in-aid with UND. Carels is a six-foot-one, 175 pound defenseman who grew up on a farm near Cypress River, Manitoba, Canada. He was the youngest player selected to Canada’s World Junior Championship team last winter. UND has two spots left to fill on its 2026 to 2027 roster: a defenseman and a third-string goaltender.
