New Data From Corrections Commission Shows Parole Absconder Stats

(Pierre, SD) — Data from the South Dakota Corrections Commission shows new information about parole absconders. The commission says more than 33-hundred people are on parole in the state and more than 100 of them are considered absconders. The commission defines absconders as parolees who have lost contact with their agent and attempts to get in contact with the parolee have been exhausted. Warrants are issued for all parole absconders. Officials are asking for an increase in parole officers, saying the average agent has a caseload of 68 parolees.
