(Helena, MT) — A hearing is underway to consider a proposed merger between the state’s largest energy utility and another company. The Montana Public Service Commission began a four-day hearing yesterday into the potential merger between NorthWestern Energy and South Dakota-based Black Hills Energy. The two utilities announced last summer that their parent companies plan to merge to create a 15-point-four-billion-dollar energy utility that would be called Bright Horizon Energy Corporation. The new company would be headquartered in South Dakota and would serve customers across eight states.
