Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Arson-Murder

(Rapid City, SD) — A man is facing life in prison without parole after being convicted in a murder-arson case. Reno Rondeau received the life sentence in federal court on Monday. He was found guilty on four counts, including first-degree murder for setting a family residence on fire and watching it burn, knowing it was occupied by his brother. A former corrections officer for the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Tanya White Butterfly, died from smoke inhalation and his brother John Rondeau Sr. was injured while trying to save her. Rondeau was also ordered to pay five thousand dollars in restitution to White Butterfly’s family and sentenced to ten years each for the remaining three charges.
