US Rep. Dusty Johnson Opens Lead In Race For Governor

(Pierre, SD) — U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson’s lead in the race for governor is growing. A new poll commissioned by South Dakota News Watch and Chiesman Center for Democracy shows Johnson has 34 percent support in the four-way race for the Republican nomination. He is followed by state House Speaker Jon Hansen at 18 percent, while incumbent Governor Larry Rhoden is tied with businessman Toby Doeden at 17 percent. Roughly 14 percent of respondents said they are undecided. The same poll conducted in October showed Johnson and Rhoden in the lead at a 28 and 27 percent, respectively.
