State Supreme Court Upholds Murder Conviction

(Bismarck, ND) — The state Supreme Court has upheld the murder conviction of a Grand Forks man sentenced to 60 years in prison for a deadly Fourth of July bar shooting, rejecting his arguments that he was denied a fair trial. The court affirmed the conviction of Nicholas Narveson, who was found guilty of murder, terrorizing, and reckless endangerment in the 2024 shooting death of James Jorgenson at Sledsters Food and Brew in Grand Forks. Surveillance video showed Narveson enter the bar, draw a handgun, and fire at Jorgenson as he walked out of the bathroom. Jorgenson was pronounced dead at the scene. Narveson claimed self-defense, arguing Jorgenson had reached inside his vest in a threatening manner. The jury rejected that claim.
