(Sioux Falls, SD) — The woman accused of kidnapping a Sioux Falls baby and taking him to Michigan has entered an Alford plea. Betty Cross entered the plea to an amended charge of second-degree kidnapping Thursday. An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit to the crime but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to likely get a conviction. During the hearing, Cross admitted taking the seven-month-old child across state lines, but denied she tried to hide him. She faces a five-year prison sentence.
