Republicans Hold 2nd Debate Between 4 Candidates For Governor

(Pierre, SD) — Four Republican candidates for governor took to the debate stage on Monday. House Speaker Jon Hansen, U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson, Businessman Toby Doeden and incumbent Gov. Larry Rhoden shared ideas on a number of topics ranging from taxes to healthcare during the one hour program. Hansen told the audience he would split the state Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Johnson said he would move the Medicaid program to the Department of Health instead of its current position under the Department of Social Services. Johnson criticized Rhoden and Hansen for raising sales taxes in place of property taxes. Doeden said his plan would eliminate property taxes altogether.
