(Pierre, SD) — An open state House seat in District 24 is creating a vacuum of candidates. Five Republicans are pursuing two nominations in the district, and whatever candidates win the primary will be seated. This sprint to the June 2nd primary follows the announcement of Rep. Will Mortenson saying he is not seeking reelection. The five-candidate field features incumbent Mike Weisgram, who is pursuing a fourth term in the legislature, along with Tim Rounds, Laurie Gill, Regan Bollweg and Brian Burge. District 24 is one of several in the state where no Democrats filed paperwork to appear on the November ballot.
