(Pierre, SD) — State House Speaker Jon Hansen is calling on legislators to suspend the state’s gas tax. The speaker is calling for a special session to implement the change. The average price of a gallon of regular in South Dakota is about four-dollars-20-cents a gallon, according to triple-A. The state gas tax adds 28 cents a gallon. If the state and federal gas taxes are both suspended, South Dakotans would save nearly 50 cents per gallon.
