Local Publishers Move Quickly to Revive Brookings Register

(Brookings, SD) — Local publishers are working to revive the Brookings Register after its sudden closure alongside several other regional papers by News Media Corporation. Former editor Josh Linehan told the city council he’s launching a new, independently owned paper focused just on Brookings.

Meanwhile, Shaun Sarvis — publisher of the Huron Plainsman — is working separately to relaunch the Register, possibly by the end of next week, along with the other papers shutdown last week including the Plainsman, the Redfield Press, and the Moody County Enterprise. Sarvis and Linehan have both stated that their plans are separate.

The shutdown came after a surprise closure of 25 papers across five states. Because there’s no current city newspaper for Brookings, legal notices will be published in the Volga Tribune for now.
