(Avon, SD) — Farmers are preparing for the height of planting season in South Dakota. After a volatile winter of price hikes to nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizers, some farmers adjusted what their crop will be and are ready to put seeds into the ground. One farmer says his main adjustment this year will be planting more beans, while another says higher prices for beans and corn will offset the higher fertilizer prices. Travis Mockler owns a farm near Centerville and says he is hoping for a good crop and a good price for either corn or soybeans. Both farmers say they could use a little bit more rain before planting begins.
