Multiple Counties Say Ballots Will Not Be Ready By Friday

(Flandreau, SD) — Officials in multiple counties say they will not have ballots ready in time for absentee voting. Friday is supposed to be the start of absentee voting in South Dakota. County officials are saying the long window for petition challenges have delayed certification of ballots by the Secretary of State’s office until Wednesday. While the candidate filing deadline was March 31st, the petition deadline was April 13th, leaving auditors with more signatures to verify before ballots can become finalized. Most officials say they hope absentee voters can begin filling out ballots next week.
