Winter wheat conditions held steady week-over-week, with just 30% rated good to excellent, well below last year’s 49%. Meanwhile, 35% of the crop is now rated poor to very poor, up two points from last week and sharply higher than last year’s 19%. In Nebraska, conditions are especially concerning, with 65% of the winter wheat crop rated poor to very poor.
Corn planting shows a wide regional divide—complete in Louisiana, while North Dakota has yet to get underway. In livestock, hog futures continue to trade at a premium to cash, while some in the trade feel cattle may be overbought. Even so, the cash cattle market continues to hold a strong tone.
