(Pierre, SD) — The latest Point-In-Time Homeless Count is showing fewer unhoused people in South Dakota compared to recent years. The state’s Housing for the Homeless Consortium is sharing results from the count that was done in late January. Over eleven-hundred people were tallied living in shelters or on the street at the time of the count, fewer than the numbers for 2024 or 2025. Only 26 military veterans were found living unhoused this year. That is the lowest number recorded since 2009.
